ABOUT OUTDATED:
The UK is one of the largest consumers of illegal drugs in Europe and this hasn’t come without its problems. When we have some of the most stringent drug laws in the world, why is it then, UK drug related deaths have reached an all time high. With the rise of ‘super strength’ drugs and substances being miss-sold across the country, Outdated looks into how revolutionary drug testing facilities are finally providing us with a more valuable and safer approach towards combatting the age-old stigma on drugs. We look at how companies such as the loop are providing confidential drug testing, welfare and harm reduction services for users. Learning first hand through a heart wrenching story what the effects of drug use can have on a family when the worst case scenario suddenly happens. ​

THE LOOP
"Having attended music festivals from a young age, mixing this with my passion for the electronic music scene I have always been at the forefront of witnessing drug use. Having the ability to see how our approach towards drug use has slowly changed over recent years has been inspiring, in my opinion something that has come at a crucial time. The inclusion of onsite drug safety testing being implemented throughout the festival circuit has been a very positive approach towards how we talk about drug use within the UK. After getting the chance to film with the Loop prior to this documentary and see first-hand what it is that the company does, I was destined to produce a piece to highlight how this company is altering our outlook and paying homage to what we are seeing within other countries in Europe. Janine Milburn is a truly inspirational woman who tragically lost her daughter down to a batch of high strength ecstasy pills at mutiny festival 2018. Having the chance to capture the story of her daughter Georgia for the first time within Outdated was an absolute honour. HOW THE OUTDATED NIGHTCLUB SCENES WERE SHOT
Outdated was shot using a Panasonic GH5 and Varying sized Samyang lenses.

‘Within the nightclub scenes I shot the content using the variable frame rate setting on the Panasonic GH5. This allowed me to slow the content right down, providing pure emotion, I chose the monochrome overlay to homage my inspirations, contrasting between the subjects within my documentary, creating a monotone view on clubbing culture, allowing a breathing space for thought.”
